In my contemporary ceramic sculpture practice based in Saint Henri, Tiohtià:ke/Montréal, I work with high-fire clay, hand-building methods, and the pottery wheel to explore the ever-evolving landscape of modern social constructs, that shape my existence. Rooted in a feminist perspective, my work navigates themes of motherhood, gender fluidity, queerness, sensuality, and an unwavering stance against racism.
Integral to my artistic expression are abstraction and organic forms, granting me the freedom to convey my inner world while encouraging viewers to interpret the work in their own way. I push the boundaries of traditional techniques to build forms that precariously balance, accumulating layers of dripping color and texture. My objective is to craft a sense of space within each piece, allowing light to spill through the form and bounce off the surface. Art and creativity are integral aspects of my lifestyle. In addition to my ceramic practice, I've explored and employed various mediums such as macro photography, DIY electronics, and interactivity, aiming to incorporate social engagement, performance, and sound into my artistic repertoire. My goal is to create immersive experiences that challenge conventional notions of beauty and foster personal growth. As a proud queer, lesbian, and gender-fluid mother of quasi-triplets, I embrace vulnerability and acceptance as foundational elements in my artistic endeavors. Ultimately, my aim is to produce work that resonates on a personal level and establishes a profound connection with the audience, inviting them to explore their own perceptions and emotions in response to my art. |
